Hello everybody
I have an M1 MBA and since i got it i refused to install rosetta 2 because i wanted everything to be native for the best battery life.
Altough i have a gaming desktop pc i would like to play some lightweight games on my MBA on my free time.
I've been playing some games through app store with my PS5 controller connected through bluetooth but there's not many of them.
For example World of warcraft is native but the Battle.net client is not yet so i'm not able to install it.
Same goes for steam and epic games launcher.
Is there any other way to play some games except app store?
Thanks in advance :D

There are some native games around, but the selection is fairly limited at the moment. Still, not quite sure why you would intentionally cripple your software selection by refusing to run Intel software. If you are concerned about battery life, wouldn’t it make more sense to simply avoid bad software? Chrome and friends are going to be a battery hog no matter whether it runs natively or under Rosetta.

Is gaming ever going to be good on battery alone? Had no idea you could even refuse to install Rosetta. If you are that serious about gaming would it not make more sense to go with a gaming laptop running Windows? Run all the games you want, natively. Library is massive and support is huge.

Well to be honest you can install Rosetta 2 for gaming and refuse to run every other Intel piece of software. If you try to enforce that limitation on games you're going to have a bad time :p

Rosetta is not installed by default on Mac OS.
When went to install Drobo Dashboard on my Studio then had to install Rosetta to get it to work.
Rosetta is installed when/if install some software that requires it on your Mac.

Strange, I can't say I have ever remembered seeing Rosetta being installed or even asking to be installed. My memory could be bad of course, but I think it just all worked right out of the box when I got my M1 Max.

I'f fairly sure you clicked the "yes" button in the 'Install Rosetta' prompt ;)

Answer is no, if your stubborn like that then end of story.
Haha i agree with everyone that i shouldn't be stubborn like that with rosetta.

Rosetta installs the first time that you try to run any intel app.
You just click yes and it gets installed.
Thank you guys for your answers.
Maybe i should give it a try.

I have 2 Apple silicon macs (and done multiple factory reset), never been asked me to install Rosetta for Intel based apps.

You can buy native games from gog.com and download the installers without needing to install the gog client. Baldur's gate 3 has a native version for instance there.

I doubt that after loading a Rosetta2 app the first time you would be able to see ANY impact in battery life. The translation is precompiled on first load and after that there is very little overhead.
The way the app is written and compiled has MUCH more impact on battery life. With games it's the graphics and the fact you are running them at full speed with the display on.
I would not worry about it.

Keep in mind that Rosetta only runs if you are running an Intel-based app, so it doesn't get loaded into memory if it isn't needed. There's really no downside to installing it. It will simply open you up to many more software options.
