On My MacBook Air M1, I tried multiple DisplayPort dongles and I get popping and cracking sounds when connected to my 3440x1440 display at 144hz. When I switch to 60hz, the issues disappear. Tried restarting, changing the DisplayPort cable, etc...

No problems on my Desktop PC and I had no problems when I had my 16 inch MacBook Pro. Has this happened to anyone else?

I briefly had my MBA connected to my display at 3440 x 1440 @ 120Hz (the max of my display) a few days ago and didn't notice any audio issues, but it was only quite briefly connected. I'll give it another try tomorrow for longer and put it through a few tests and see if I can recreate it.

I connect it through a Monoprice Thunderbolt 3 to dual DisplayPort adapter that I have left over from my previous MacBook Pro. Only one port will work of course on the M1 machines, but otherwise the adapter works perfectly at refresh rates up to at least 120Hz.
