Mario Sunshine on a base M1 Air is perfectly smooth at 3x native (1080p), a little choppy at 1440p, and very choppy at 4k. No thermal throttling.

Apparently game emulation + virtual machines are the worst case scenario for the M1 running x86, so I'm happy with this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm excited to see what Dolphin running ARM + Metal API natively would look like

Have you done a comparison with DolphinIos version (I read somewhere that third party iPhone apps work easily, but cannot confirm that yet)

Edit: after reading a few extra forums, if you use iMazing to export the IPA, you can get it to work

That looks good! I was using an older version of Dolphin (I think the last stable release from about 5 years ago) on my Intel MBP 2020 last weekend. It was pretty good at 1080p. I should get a newer version of the app though.
