Ordering a new M1 MacBook Pro! I have a 500gb iCloud Photos Library that I'd like to store on my laptop (originals). I also work with drone footage. Is it worth it to go for the 2tb or stick with 1tb? Should I just get an external, or is that even an option?

Since you would like to store all of your originals on your laptop, i'd go for 2 TB. You may not use all of it, but you will have the peace of mind to do exactly what you want to do without using an external.

Yeah.. I currently have a 256 but it constantly frustrates me with being full. Nobody mentions how frustrating/a hassle external HD's are!

If you are already using 500 GB just for photos and you want to be able to store them on the local SSD, I would say 2 TB is an absolute necessity. That library will only grow and you're going to find a 1 TB SSD filled up pretty quickly. I hear you on wanting to keep it on the laptop and not an external hard drive...it's a pain to do so, especially when on the go.

There are some innovative external ideas such as mounting the SSD on the back of the screen. Still with your amount of data I would go with the 2TB.
