Hi everyone,

This is my first post here. It's really nice to meet all of you.

I've had my base M1 MacBook Pro (256gb ssd) for a little over a week now and I noticed that out of the box the battery life was really poor compared to Apple's claims. This went on for almost a week where the battery life was quite poor (for an M1 Mac that is) however for the past two days I've noticed my battery life/longevity improving dramatically. Before I was lucky to get 8-9 hours of battery life, when now I'm getting 14-15 hours of battery life on a full charge.

What exactly is going on here? Is the M1 learning about my usage and adjusting accordingly? Or is something else going on in the background that I don't know about. I've never had a laptop behave this way before where battery life has suddenly improved a week after I've gotten the laptop.

Did this happen to you? Is this kind of thing normal?

My battery life has been amazing, I got my m1 MacBook Air last Friday, it had around 80% battery, used it Friday night and charged it, then used it Saturday and Sunday without charging, charged it Sunday night while I slept, and used it all of yesterday and today and still have 83%. that is amazing.

Welcome to the forum, I always like to hear of people pleased with a new MacBook. I’ve only bought two but both have delighted me.

Your battery life experience sounds normal to me. The Mac will initially be busy indexing your files and you’re bound to have downloaded a bunch of stuff, it all takes juice. Also, rechargeable batteries not reaching their max capacity for a few charge cycles seems to be a thing. As for the Mac learning your ways, it would be nice to think so. But I don’t ?

My guess is Spotlight is working to index your hard disk - which happens after reinstallation.
This should normalize within day or two...
