Hi all,

I know homepods and macs have never really played too well together; no system wide output to stereo paired units, sacrificial work-arounds, no real usage of the microphone, etc.

Do you think with the new m1 chip in play and greater iOS compatibility, that homepods will actually be fully functional with Macs?

I would love to order up a pair of the new HomePod minis for use on my small laptop desk with the new 13” M1 MBP I’ve ordered, but if it’s going to be a bootleg computer speaker set up like it has been in the past I will likely go with something else. It’s pretty ridiculous that apple hasn’t figured out, or released the ability as of yet, full HomePod + Mac functionality.. fingers crossed the M1 chip is what they’ve been waiting for..

Pretty sure the processor will have nothing to do with compatibility between the Mac and the HomePod. That is all software compatibility.

Right, I’m just wondering, if now that iOS apps will work natively on the m1 chip macs, and Homepods are controlled by iOS devices, if that will allow Mac to take full advantage of them.

I would love to just have a set of paired homepods for speakers and microphone as opposed to some big bulky computer speaker set up and a stand alone microphone. Would really make for a clean desk set up.
