I have a 2019 16" MBP 5600M and it supports a total of 4 4K external displays. How many can the 16" M1 Max support?

And I believe each USB-C port has its own TB controller? Does this mean in order to connect 4 displays that I have to plug in 1 display in the HDMI and each of the other 3 displays into a separate USB-C port? Or can I use a dock and just connect it into 1 USB-C port?

The tech specs shows the following:

Up to three external displays with up to 6K resolution and one external display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors (M1 Max)

That means three displays at up to 6K (which includes 4K), plus an additional 4K monitor—Apple gave the example of a 4K TV, but it could also be a monitor. So yes, 4 4K displays are supported, three out of the 3 Thunderbolt ports and the fourth would be out of HDMI.

Must I connect each of the other non-HDMI displays into a separate USB-C port or can they call be plugged into a dock a that connects via 1 TB cable?
