The Mac I'm transitioning from is a 2015 MBP running Mavericks Mojave and its charger LED consistently confirm full charge within 2h when starting from ~30%.

My M1 Max has only reached 96% and still shows amber (using the mag port). It's been this way for about 5h (sleeping, lid closed). Now, using it the "time to full change" steadily is decreasing from initially 25 minutes.

Does the new M1/macOS charge differently than older configs? Maybe my behavior suggests charging in this manner?

Thanks

Can you select : charge too 100% on the battery icon?

Until I start my new study, my (new) M1 air is plugged in since I bought it, in march or April.
Sometimes the battery is anywhere between 80 and 100% while plugged in. And I can choose to “top it off” . If I don’t do anything, the next day it’s 100% again.
?

It doesn't offer that selection, but System Preferences has "Optimized batter charging" checked. This would be the reason. I'll let the OS choose when to charge past 80%--so it should match what you see.

went down this road too , changed charger , changed cable , tried other sockets ..... charges to 100% when turned off but turned out to be the smart charging. On early os12 the charge to 100% in the beta at least was not visible as an option when clicking on the power icon but now it is.
