Hello all,
I'm a web/mobile developer and Im planning to update my 2018mbp. In my work we use windows machines but personally I'm a Mac user. Normally I would buy a Mac without questions but now with the new m processors I'm kinda puzzled.

My main usage would be web (react and some php projects with mamp pro), mobile (react native and flutter) and recently I have started upgrading my backend skills with java(spring boot).

Will I be able to do all my work in the new Mac or I'll be facing compatibility of whatever issues that will prevent me from focusing on my work and spent my time troubleshooting? I have lots of projects and time is really precious for me.

Any input would be appreciated

I don't currently have a M1 MBP but some colleagues do. You will run into some compatibility issues. For example running older MySQL versions (<= 5.6) in Docker would not work on M1. Upgrading to a newer MySQL fixed the problem.

Most things will run fine but you definitely want to google for M1 compatibility for whatever is critical for your work.

A lot will also depend on what kind of work you do e.g if you are a consultant then your clients might have projects that are setup to work just fine on older Intel Macs or Windows machines that then just fail to run on an Apple Silicon system because it was never tested.

As Apple Silicon Macs become more prominent the issue will become less and less relevant as tools get updated to support it properly.

My problem is that a Mac is needed for iOS development so I'm thinking of switching to windows and keep my old Mac only for building for iOS... But still not ideal
