When my computer wakes from sleep (clamshell mode and then I turn my monitor off, which makes the system sleep), performance is really messed up until I restart. Typing is sometimes delayed, windows lag when I move them around, Logic Pro has all sorts of weird slowdowns. I've even had MIDI playback get messed up in Logic Pro.

Has anyone experienced this?

i had an issue back in january shortly after i got my m1 max where the gpu would not wake properly from sleep. you could test by doing a geekbench metal test, and you would see the gpu performance drop to around 5-10% after sleep. it definitely made the system extremely unresponsive and nearly unusable.

unfortunately, the only solution after talking to apple support was to completely wipe the machine and reinstall the OS (even a repair install didn't help). luckily the issue hasn't cropped up again since then, so i chocked it up to a bad OS update. are you on an OS beta by any chance?

Wow okay glad to hear there’s a way to properly test. Nope I’m on the latest normal Monterey release (just came out a few days ago but this has been happening for months). I’ll try the metal test and report back. Thanks!

I was able to replicate the problem both connected to an external monitor as well as on its own. A fresh boot was also a temporary solve for the issue, although at its worst, I could reboot the machine, close the lid for 5 seconds, and upon reopening the gpus would tank until another reboot.

Okay. And it definitely fixed after a clean install??
