I have an M1 Max MBP, connected to an Elgato TB3 dock, which is in turn connected to a Samsung G9 Neo 49in via a DP 1.4 to USB-C cable.

Setup 1 - With the monitor set to 120Hz (on the monitor itself), I can choose 120hz refresh rate on my Mac, but no HDR. Set at 60Hz on my Mac, I can enable HDR.

Setup 2 - If I set the monitor to 240Hz, I have no option on my Mac to select a refresh rate, though it seems really to be at 60Hz or possibly lower, but can choose HDR.

I'm aware through previous research that Macs don't seem able to display 240Hz to an external monitor, but I don't really understand this aspect of computers. How come on option 1 I can't set HDR on the 120Hz rate?

Thanks for any help / advice.

Hey, we have the same setup except for the dock (I have a CalDigit TS3+). No dice here either. The options at the res using any cable through this dock are 120hz or HDR. Not both.

I thought I may have seen someone post about getting it to work somewhere but I can't find the thread (it was on Reddit).

Thanks for replying mate, glad I'm not the only one (and yes we're basically the same setup - I nearly got the CalDigit one, but I seem to recall not needing one of the ports that it offered but the Elgato one used for something else).

I'll have a look on Reddit to see if it was just your imagination!

Thanks again...

Out of curiosity, did you get any joy by connecting the monitor and MBP directly?
