The dock on my M1 MBA has suddenly stopped autohiding even when I move to full-screen apps, which is really annoying me. I'm not certain exactly when it started doing this compared to what else I've done, but I thought it might have been connected to trying the uBar software. But even having deleted that, it won't autohide. I've checked that the setting is on for autohide in system preferences, moved it to different places, and tried restarting the Mac several times. I also followed advice in an online article to try killing the dock in Terminal - it didn't solve the problem, but did freeze the Mac, which I had to force power-off. I'm not experienced with that kind of thing so I'd rather not have to do that again, but I recognise I may have to! Is there any way to fix this problem that you could kindly guide me towards?

I really appreciate any help you can offer!

you can toggle autohide using

Option (⌥) + Command (⌘) + D.

Press that keyboard shortcut combination and you should see your Dock disappear. Does it?

you can try Onyx to clear the prefs (and do additionally other things). Please beware to choose the Onyx version fitting the MacOS version you’re running.

or open a terminal and paste and execute:

defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier -float 0.15;killall Dock

then turn on the default using:

defaults delete com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier;killall Dock

Thank you thank you thank you! It worked! Sorry for the delay replying - I had to update my system first, but then in a couple of minutes problem seems to have been solved with a reset of the dock. I would *never* have known to use that app, and I'm really glad not to have to go anywhere near Terminal again :)
