The last couple of days I've opened my MBA and it won't turn on. I figure maybe the battery died. I plug it in, it boots up, and after login shows 96%, not charging and Power Source is Power Adapter. About a minute after I unplug it, it shuts off, I plug it back in and turn it on to see it's showing 1% battery with Power Source as Power Adapter and 23 minutes until fully charged.

Battery Health shows Battery Condition is Normal with 95% maximum capacity.

Any recommendations for what I should do/try before scheduling a Genius Bar appointment?

Definitely failing battery. MacOS is not the best of determining the actual condition of a battery.

Took it to the Genius Bar today and they ran the diagnostics and it passed. The Genius showed me his iPad and showed the white dot in the Passed range but noted it was declining vertically down the Y axis and not moving along the X axis which is a more typical pattern for battery usage.

His belief was that by reinstalling the OS, it could resolve the issue as it may be a "software problem" with Monterrey. So basically they factory restored the OS for me (even though I said I could it myself at home). In the notes that I received a copy of in the work order it stated the battery health was at 92% and 34 cycles.

Guess I'll wait and see if the OS reinstall fixes the issue. At least I have the issue documented in Apple's systems should it happen again...
