Scrolling through comments in Youtube on Safari seems very laggy. Scrolling is jittery, there's a long lag loading new comments, and sometimes doesn't register my scrolling motions consistently. It got so bad I moved back to Chrome, where I don't have this issue at all...everything scrolls smoothly. Anybody else notice this? Seems a little better under 11.1 RC.

Weird. The other odd thing is that I didn't notice this initially, just during the past few weeks.

There is another thread with a script fix, that works well.
I think I found the thread you're talking about here:

It involves loading the Userscripts extension then creating and enabling a custom CSS. It seems to help, though I uninstalled it since it seemed like a funky workaround. I'll just continue to use Chrome till Apple comes out with a fix. I did submit this as a Feedback request.

Well I'm glad I found this thread! I can barely scroll using the scroll wheel on my Logitech MX Master 3 Mac mouse while accessing YouTube on a M1 MacMini. Every other non-YouTube tab works great.

Oddly, I didn't run into this problem until today. I think I would have noticed it earlier, after using my new rig for 4 days.

I have to resort to using the right hand scroll bar to get anywhere on the YouTube page. Jeebus this is annoying!

Is there a YouTube app. for BigSur? Can I, as alternative install iOS YouTube app.?

Edit: I forgot to mention I’m using 1Blocker.

Unfortunately as of now there is no Youtube app for MacOS yet. It is possible to port the IOS application over to the Mac using something like iMazing but that is a less than ideal experience. I think the best bet is to use Chrome...they have a Universal version that runs quite snappily on my M1 MacBook Air.

Not sure what other people doing  with MBA M1 wired lan and adblocker, comments running smooth with safari.
Only if i scroll very fast sometimes i must wait for loading comments. but this is because youtube is slow.

I hate to be "that guy," but I just tested YouTube on my 512 16 M1 MBP and don't experience the issues you are having.

Are your machines 8gb RAM, by any chance? Could that be the reason, for some strange reason?

I hope you get it sorted.

My machine is a M1 MacMini with 16GB RAM/512GB SSD, running two Dell monitors. One USB-C the other HDMI. I am using a Logitech MX Master 3 Mac mouse and using the Logitech dongle/reciever. No problems on any other website but YouTube. And, I can "scroll" like crazy using the right hand scroll bar, just not the mouse bar as it freezes up.

UPDATE: Weird, now Safari is working fine with my MX Master 3 scroll wheel. I did install Chrome, when back to Safari and now is scrolls fine. I have no idea why.

UPDATE to the UPDATE: Doing it again!

I still love the MacMini....but oh all the surprises ;) I'm just glad there is such a community of helpful and knowledgeable users here. Otherwise I'd be going crazy. This is like the old fashioned Apple User Group I attended when I owned a //+. Just bigger!

Base model M1 MacBook Pro, no issues scrolling through YouTube comments, buttery smooth.

ESPN website runs like a pig on my M1 pro, freezes, videos fail to play at times, safari pop up message saying ESPN website isn't responding.

Thanks! How hard is it to return to the official release version it this preview goes wonky?
Easy. It runs along side of it so you get 2 Safaris. Ive been using it non stop and removed the old one from the dock. Rock solid and fast scrolling. Try it.
