Brand new 14" M1 MBP failed with the above.

Attempting suggested fix and will lose a day's pay if unsuccessful.

Is this likely to be a one off or should I demand a replacement.

If it's under warranty, take it to a brick-n-mortar Apple Store genius bar.
They'll either find the problem, or replace it.

I fixed using Apple Configurator 2 and the machine seems fine...

I heard a nasty crackle just after the Apple bong when booting and the exclamation mark/restore screen popped up - I am concerned that there may be an underlying hardware issue.

Problem is if I take it to a genius bar they will keep it for days/weeks whilst acting like they are doing me a favour for taking a look at an expensive six week old machine that has started exhibiting problems

Out of interest has this happened to anyone else?

Machine running fine after revive however there was a worrying crackle during the boot failure.

My 16" M1 Max is running perfectly with no issues. I would be concerned if I were in your position; however, I understand the need to keep a running machine if you're making money with it. I have never heard of anyone with your specific issue. I would, personally, be sending it back for a repair/replacement and utilizing a backup device whilst you wait.

Contact Apple and see what your options are. They may be willing to let you keep the computer whilst you wait for a replacement (they'll likely need a card to hold the charge).

I had this happen with my 16" M1 Max. Had to take it in to Apple. The revive did not work, and in the end, I had to get a full logic board replacement...

Was the logic board replacement under warranty and about how long did it take for you to get your macbook back? I have a similar issue with my MBP 14 and they couldn't figure out if it was hardware or software issue at the store, was just sent off for repairs today.

Yes. The machine was a month old at the time. They wanted to exchange it for a new one, but there was no stock. It took a while for the logic board to get in. A little over a week after I dropped it off.
