Hi

I've seen a thread on some display issues with the M1 Mac mini but not much on the M1 portables.

I'm having some small issues with my new 13" M1 MBP and my LG Ultafine 5K.

When I wake the Mac from sleep, the external display takes about 5 seconds to come one, and a couple of times it didn't come on at all. Once, it woke into a very weird resolution that looked like interlaced video, with horizontal lines splitting UI elements.

I'm not using any hub, just the LG 5K connected via a Belkin TB3 cable.

On my Intel MBP, it would wake almost instantly along with the Mac's build-in display.

Running the latest non-beta software.

Any help/workarounds appreciated!

I have the M1 air and LG 49, same problem. I ended up setting the display to never sleep. I manually turn off the monitor now.
I submitted two tickets to Apple already.
My the other surface book 3 doesn't have a single problem with the LG 49, so it is the Mac OS issue.

Yeah my Intel Mac and even my horrendous work Fujitsu (admittedly over USB-C) don't have this problem, so must be an M1 or Big Sur thing.

You mean "Looks like 3008x1692"?
My m1 Mac shows 3008x846 as Hidpi means much more clear. The font and icons are noticeably smoother. But I lose vertical real estate. I can go with 5120x1440 too, it is not high dpi, so it’s too tiny and fuzzy.

God I wish Apple would make a first party 5k monitor with built in USB-C hub for the laptop users to enjoy.

Not just a USB-C hub but also a camera, speakers, and a microphone. The UltraFine 5K is literally the only monitor I could find that has all that and as good as it is, it's no Thunderbolt Display.

We really, really need an updated Thunderbolt Display from Apple. I'd order 2 the day they announce it.

You guys are wanting too much. I just wish they can get the Mac to work properly with current monitors. But I do wish there is a retina 49 inch monitor. All 5k 49 inch monitors have low ppi now.

Oh. I got confused. I thought we were talking about the LG UltraFine 5K display which is a 16:9 display.
You are talking about the LG 49" which is a 32:9 display.

A HiDPI 49" display would be 10240x2880. That would be 53.1 Gbps (60 Hz, 10 bpc). It should be possible using HBR3 with DSC. Just need a GPU and driver that will allow it (and a display :) ).

At least with 11.1, my weird "can't wake up", is gone.
I still have this "wake up with weird resolution" issue.
