Hey guys, got a long lasting weird issue with my 14” M1 Pro MacBook Pro that I would greatly appreciate any assistance on. It’s a strangely specific error at that too. Essentially what is going on is that when my MacBook completely runs out of battery, it will not charge with the included 67 watt Apple adapter I have with the MacBook. I’ve tried using the MagSafe and the usb c cables with the adapter but no luck. It only charges it back to life with an aftermarket adapter like my Samsung power adapter I have. This is only an issue when the MacBook is completely depleted of charge and does not turn on because of no battery remaining. Otherwise, the Apple power adapter works great without issue. I even went by the Apple Store to have them run full diagnostics and everything passed on the MacBook as well as the adapter and cables. Has anyone experience this before and if so, what fixes did you use? I don’t recall it happening with Monterey OS but all the OSs afterwards have definitely been giving me this issue. I’ve tried resetting the OS as well with no luck. Other than this issue, it’s a great machine and I have no complaints. Thanks in advance for any help!!

How long did you let the charger charge the laptop before attempting to turn it on?

I've tried with varying amounts of time and have not seen any indicator lights on the MagSafe or any visual/audible confirmation that the computer is charging. Once I plug in my Samsung charger, the computer immediately begins charging and soon powers on as well

How often is this condition happening? You're not really supposed to run your battery down to 0%, and definitely not as a regular thing. It's quite bad for your battery and not recommended. Just charge it before you get to that point.

ignatius is right in reply 4.

Either:
1. re-charge BEFORE the battery runs out. I'd reason that when it gets to 30%, that's when to plug it in.
or
2. carry the second charger around -- the one you KNOW will work.

It tends to happen if I leave it in sleep mode for a few days and forget that it's not powered off. That's when it has trouble powering back on when using the Apple charging adapter

It's means it's too depleted for even the Mac charger to detect it.
But you are killing your battery letting it get so discharged. Really disproportionally killing it.
Batteries hate being really discharged.
Leave rechargeable AA batteries in something like a clock or thermometer until you can't use them any more and you won't be able to charge them again.
Let your 12V car battery totally discharge and you'll likely have to buy a new one.
Can you leave it plugged in when you aren't using it? It would do it far less damage especially if you have it set up so it doesn't go over 80%.
Try AlDente?

I could start leaving it plugged in consistently, the only concern I've heard there is that by being plugged in always, it can also diminish the ability of the battery to hold a charge. But maybe by keeping it at 80%, that would help mitigate that risk?

You are doing WAY more harm to your battery by constantly letting it get to 0% than you ever would by leaving it plugged in most of the time.

Just plug it in when you're not using it, or when it's below 20%, and forget about it.

Ah, I see. I tend to leave mine for a while on occasion as well. Fortunately it tends to only lose a few percent a day when sleeping.

I'd say:

1. Figure out what's killing the battery during sleep
2. Just leave it plugged in when it's idle for long periods
3. or just shut down instead of sleeping

Whatever you do, if the battery keeps getting drained to 0% over and over it will degrade a lot faster. Doing a full discharge over and over is a known battery killer. And no, charging to 100% is not a problem, despite what the battery hobbyist crowd will tell you.
