I been having major issues with my iMac, it’s been at the Apple store for a week now and they can’t replicate the issue. I am tired of fighting with the computer (and Apple) so I traded it in for a M1 Mac mini. It will be arriving in a few weeks. I need to pick up a display. Ideally I would like a 27” 5K display for photo editing but the only one I could find is the LG ultra fine that apple sells. But looking at the Mac rumors mini form it seems to be a nightmare. Most of the 27” displays out there are 4K which I read that 27” 4K screens do not scale well when working in Lightroom and photoshop, and running them at 4k the UI will be too small and the other option would be 1920 x 1080 which is too large. Anything in the middle would be a non-integer downscale. So I'm thinking 2K, my short list is down to the Dell ultra sharp UP271D which is a 2K display. Or the BenQ 27 SW270C. The Dell is about $200 cheaper and I have had good luck with their screens in the past. I looking for any advice and corrections to my thinking.

I have the 24" 4K LG Thunderbolt 3 Display that I bought at the Apple store about a year or so ago and it has been working very well for me with my 2018 MBP. I'm not sure if there are issues inherent with the 27" LG display that aren't present in the 24" one, but I can say that I have not had any problems with my display at all.

However, since you want something larger than a 24" I hope that others can chime in with their recommendations for a display that comes in that size which is reliable and such.

@Apple fanboy recommended me a Benq recently and someone else an Eizo (@r.harris1??)
I actually have the first version of the LG 5k 27 inch that is working reasonably well at the moment. That said, I have an occasional eye on an Eizo. I have one at work, but when shutdown happened last year, that was the last I saw of it as we weren't allowed back in. I can get a wafer thin discount on one so we shall see.

While it‘s definitely doable, the LG is a tad more cumbersome to color manage so that is really important to me from a print workflow perspective. The Apple XDR is even more cumbersome to color manage since they appear to need a 15k colorimeter to do it. Youch.

Okay. So I sell BenQ SW screens for a living. I put that out there as I don’t like to dupe people. Before that we only used to sell Eizo and NEC. I think the BenQ are amazing screens for the price. The SW270C being the top seller. It is very competitively priced, you get hardware calibration, LUT, uniformity and a wide colour gamut. Has nice things thrown in like a shading hood, built in SD card reader and hot key puck.
Any questions let me know.

Is there any compatibly issues with the M1 Mini and the BenQ SW270C?

Thanks for all the input, I'm going to look at the 24" iMac again after work. I'm thinking this will keep me happy for a while. I use a 24" screen at work for prepress work and the size is fine.

What do you have in a 32" size and native 1440p resolution?

I DO NOT WANT 32" 4k, but 2k instead.

Is there one model in particular that stands out in this category?

Most of my work is displayed on the web now a days. Is wide gamut still like Abobe RGB still a must for monitors. Or is a good sRGB display enough.

Non integer downscale to 1440p on 4k is magnitudes better than a native 1440p panel.

Actually 2560 x 1440 is sharper on a 2560 x 1440 panel than a downscaled 4K panel in my experience.
for someone who had a 27’ 5k imac would the 2k panel look as sharp. (is there really a big difference in apples retinal magic)

Depends on the viewing distance and the if you run the 5k display at native resolution.
I really wish I could see this display in real life before I buy. But that not possible in our shop on line world. I ran my 5k display @ 2560 x 1440. The viewing distance is about 2 feet or 0.6 meter. I"m leaning towards this display it's at the upper end of my budget.
