I'm waiting for my new M1 MBA to arrive next week.

I'm a teacher that's now 100% online (for the pandemic). I've been doing it through Teams for the last semester and will surely do for the next one.

Right now Microsoft has announced that basically all their Office apps except Teams have been optimized to run on M1. (Teams is "coming soon".)

I understand that Teams is basically based on chromium and electron, and that basically the app is just a big webpage that's equivalent to using teams.microsoft.com through a chromium browser (like Edge).

So now I'm wondering ... does running Teams through Edge (that is M1 optimized) give better performance than running the Teams App through Rosetta ?

In Activity monitor, opening and using Teams through Edge (M1 optimized) doesn't open any "Intel" thread that I can see.

So I guess it must perform better.

I also teach through Teams and received my M1 MBA last weekend. Just clicking around the various Teams and buttons seems a little snappier on the web version. I'll report back here after actually teaching with it.

The app itself is incredibly annoying when you're presenting your whole screen as it keeps reverting back to the MS Teams app screen if your apps are in FS mode. I don't have M1 but I highly doubt it's any different through Rosetta.
