Hi guys,

TL;DR: I'm really afraid of the fan noise on 14" M1 Pro MacBook Pro. I previously had 16" i9 Intel 2019 MacBook Pro and I HATED this loud and overheating piece of garbage. Can I be safe with 14" or should I go for 16" M1 Pro (which I try to avoid)? What's your experience?

I really want to hear some real life stories/perspective from those of you who have been using 14" MacBook Pro with M1 Pro for more intensive tasks like music production or video editing. How it behaves from the fan noise perspective? I previously had an Intel i9 16" MacBook Pro from 2019 and it was a HORRIBLY loud machine. I'm really allergic to fan noise and it was a nightmare. All I had to do was to connect the external monitor to hear this depressing, excessive noise (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2019-16-is-hot-noisy-with-an-external-monitor.2211747). I sold this piece of sh*t recently with almost 40% loss but I'm still really happy that I got rid of this trash. I've always wanted a 14" machine which is a perfect sweet spot for me and now I'm about to purchase the M1 Pro 14". But I'm REALLY afraid in terms of fan noise issues. I don't want to make the same mistake I made with the Intel one. Reviews and comments are promising, but I'm a bit skeptical since my previous Intel MacBook Pro had also a great reviews, none of the popular tech youtubers back in the days said that it sounds like a jet engine. I know that 14" needs to ramp up the fans sometimes but the key question is - how often? in which scenarios? What's your experience? I don't want to go for M1 Pro 16", it is too bulky for me, BUT I'm willing to do this if the 14" fans are loud and annoying.

Thank you in advance.

Don't know about the 14" but on the 16", I've never heard the fan spin after nearly 3 months of usage. I'm a developer and I play Starcraft 2 occasionally.

I push the CPU to 100% sometimes but never the CPU + GPU at 100%. That's probably why my fans never spun.

14" MBP M1 Pro. I have been doing platformio builds in Visual Studio Code. (tool chain is mostly still intel.) I have never heard the fans come on yet and it is so fast.

The only time I hear the fans is when I'm well into a round of something like Civ or Stellaris. Even at full tilt, it's still quieter than the 16" Intel I had, cooler too.

I don't do AV work, but I think that may depend on which apps you use and whether or not they're native.

M1 Max here and only time the fans are on is during gaming. Its definitely quite compared to my 16" especially when driving 2+ external displays.
