Hi folks,

I know there have been a ton of similar questions but I‘ve never seen first-hand recommendations for my requirements:

I‘m eyeing a new 14“ M1 Pro and wonder which configuration would ensure a smooth performance for my work in the mid-to-long term.
I am frequently running large-scale online workshops with 100+ participants collaborating in Miro or Mural while streaming my video with a 4K DSLR connected to my computer. All of this happens on a 40“ Dell Ultrawide Screen that I want to run through a single USB c cable.

I need the 1TB storage, so that‘s fixed. But I‘m uncertain about the CPU/GPU and RAM configuration that‘d ensure snappy performance without unnecessary overloading m configuration.

Any pointers to reviews focusing on setups like this instead of „just“ audio/video settings or own experiences are highly appreciated.

Thanks!

The M1 Pro will work just fine as it is rated to run up to two 6K displays. As per which, get the one with the full M1 Pro 10-CPU cores and 16-GPU cores. Given the need to run so many projects, I'd say get the 32GB of memory option.

This will be an expensive device. So if budget as a constraint go with the memory first.

I would first upgrade RAM to 32GB before anything else. RAM cannot be upgraded later and with your use-case you'll want it. Running video conferencing apps while using a 4K camera will eat that RAM especially with lots of other apps open.

Get the full version (not binned) version of the M1 Pro chip which is the 10 core CPU and 16 core GPU. This provides a better CPU v.s the base model (8-10 cores) and 2 more GPU cores. You could get by with the 10/14 configuration if the money is an issue however the 16-core is more future-proof.
