Can anyone help me figure out what is happening? My MacBook Pro is clearly running something in the background even when the lid is closed and it should be asleep. My MacBook Pro is never cool to the touch when it has power. And the standby battery life is under 1 day because of it. Is there some way to check what is happening so I can quit these processes?

That Sleep aid looks very useful. If you do not want to invest into that, you can try to dig through console logs (log in as admin before you run Console or you will not see much) and see, what is waking computer up. I am sure that is what Sleep Aid is checking. It is research project, it is lots of stuff, but there are guides on the net which explain what to look for. Google can help. I did it last time ~2019 with my 2017 i7 MBP. Did not need it since, lucky me.
