I ran some tests to compare the performance of 14in M1 Pro (10c CPU, 16c GPU) powered macbook against the Zephyrus g15 ryzen 9 5900hs 3070 laptop. I didnt do any GPU comparisons because metal isnt supported yet. For simulations and viewport playback, the m1 pro does very well. I also did a few tests on battery only to see if there were any differences. Both Laptops are running the latest builds of blender 3.0 alpha released today ( ARM version for mac)

Great and very informative video! What what about fan noise? Personally, I can wait for a job to finish but it is less irritating if the computer is silent when working.

When doing simulations, waiting for one to finish isn’t the end of the world, but you tend to make small tweaks and then have to bake again , and when doing this over and over, the workflow is much slower as the repeated attempts add up. Also the higher the resolution of your simulation, the better it favors the M1. I will be posting more videos of higher res simulations that show how far behind the pc can fall in many scenarios.

Agree, tweaking is very time consuming. Can you hear the fans at all under a render?
