So I took delivery of an M1 Pro 16inch MacBook Pro yesterday and as a videographer starter editing a current project on Adobe Premiere Pro (the latest version is installed).

I noticed when I first exported the file that it was really poor quality and figured I must have got my export settings wrong so I checked them and used the default YouTube 1080p preset. It estimated the file size would be 2.6gb but once exported the file was again poor quality, pixelated and blurred and half of the estimated size.

I then tried exporting the exact same project on my Windows desktop as a fault finding test, with the same YouTube 1080p preset and the quality was as to be expected and the file size matched the estimated 2.6gb.

I’ve tried so many export presets and the MacBook M1 Pro is consistently less than half the size of Windows exports and has poor quality/pixelation. It’s almost like a hardware issue?!

I can only think this is a faulty unit somehow. Is anybody else experiencing this or similar? Something else to note that adding any After Effects composition to a Premiere Pro sequence grinds Premiere to a halt and eventual ‘force quit’.

Really disappointed with it so far and will be returning if I can’t get to the bottom of it. Will try exporting on my intel MacBook Pro later and see if I get the same issue.

From doing some digging looks like changing your export settings to CBR instead of VBR works... I just tried it. Worked on my end!
