poll time

only for people who did upgrade to M2 iPad Pro

im assuming some people:
handed down their old device to family members or
switched from one screen size to another or
needed more capacity or
broke theirs and didnt want to pay the out of warranty cost on an older gen

else it boggles my mind, but its unfit for me to people what to do or how to spend their own money

I'd like it a million times more if Apple fixed the insanely bad ProMotion stutter bug that they introduced with iOS 16+.

I bought a few M2 Pros for gaming. And as it stands, in absolutely any game, the M2 iPad Pro is laggier than the M1 ever was and ten times laggier than a native 60 HZ or 120 HZ screen without ProNonsense meddling with frame rates in applications where it has no business doing so. It nonstop conflicts with in-app FPS settings and the resulting stutter is enough to give anyone a headache looking at it for a while. The chip is capable of running all nice and smooth, but the bugged screen frame rate management system makes it look like it's running A8 inside instead.

It's a known issue, plenty of reports of it everywhere, but zero words from Apple on it other than apparently that it's their fault and that's it. Even one giant game company that I know of commented on what a mess it is.

Yeah I do notice weird frame stuttering too…can you link to all the stuff you’re reading about this?

Here are a few links from MacRumours (spanning Nov last year to Jan 2023). Note that some threads mention only iPhones, but it's the same bug and that only became apparent to most people once they got their M2s:

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...nimations-on-promotion-iphones.2370596/page-3 (thread by MacRumours saying it's fixed, users initially agreeing when 16.2 was first downloaded because it genuinely didn't stutter for 1-2 days, then it came right back and everyone agreed it stutters again)

Reddit - most of it mentions iPhones because they're more common but there are iPad comments scattered around too.

This first thread in particular mentions a lot of issues noticed by Unity developers even during development, and also mentions the bug being noticed by developers of Riot and others. Says both iPhones 13/14 PM and the M2 iPad Pros:

That's off the top of my head but if you search around more you'll find much, much more on these two sites as well as comments on YouTube, various Apple-related websites and so on.

It's so dead obvious as a bug that it completely wrecks gaming on iPhone 14 PM and M2 iPad Pro both. They were supposed to be (and would have been) the most capable gaming devices of the year, but in reality they're a laggy mess thanks entirely to ProMotion.
