Finally managed to connect my Apple 27" LED (Mini DisplayPort version) to the M1 mini as following...

Mini M1 < Apple Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter < Thunderbolt HD < Apple Mini DisplayPort Display

One caveat is that the monitor turns off once the hard drive goes to sleep so make sure to disable that until a simpler solution is found.

The Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter does not support DisplayPort displays. Nor does the 27" LED Cinema Display support Thunderbolt. So the Hard Drive you purchased is taking Thunderbolt in and putting DisplayPort out. Your Thunderbolt HD is the glue making it all stick together. You should tell everyone what Thunderbolt HD you bought.

Good to know, i bought one myself of a different brand which did not work, does yours need to be hooked to the power outlet to work?
