They made that the easiest decision as I’ve seen to stay with my M1. Just did a side by side comparison, besides the processor, the single only difference is the hover feature with the Apple Pencil. May be worth it for those who have earlier generations, but no need if coming from an M1 Pro.

I just got an almost $200 off iPad Pro 11 at BestBuy a few weeks ago. I do not regret my purchase at all because I was looking at what I need and could use now.

8GB of ram and 256GB will be enough for me (with my MBP) for several years.

iPads are great pieces of technology and they fulfill their role well. No one device does everything well. I'm finding a lot of enjoyment with an iPhone, iPad, and MBP. Expensive but I plan on keeping these for a long time. I'm getting too old and my bank account isn't enough to keep buying new technology all the time.

So I'm rocking a 2017 9.7 iPad Pro. So tech wise, today's new iPads are a huge jump. But... there is a 25% increase on UK pricing compared to literally 24 hours ago. So now I'm stuck between snapping up a 256GB 12.9" M1 at around £1050 or the M2 at £1369. I do intend on keeping this for 5-6 years too so I'm still tempted by an M2 for better future proofing? Maybe. Aaaahh, i don't know!

I don’t think the m2 warrants a $319 price bump from the M1. I would grab the M1

If it offered some more features, maybe if they were worth it to you. But there’s literally nothing new.

I just learnt I can get 10% off currently through a work offer on Apple Store ecards. So that makes the price a little more palletable I guess. Can I tell I'm just trying to convince myself to go M2? 😂

Haha, hey if you can swing it financially, go for it. I’m not here to judge. I just got a m2 MacBook Air, a 14 pro max and have an 11” m1 iPad. I’ve spent a pretty penny lately on apple stuff, purely because I can, not because I “needed” it lol.

But I don’t work away from home for 80+ hours a week to not enjoy my earnings lol

Definitely not upgrading from my 2021 iPad Pro. I was not expecting to, but I am surprised at how minimal this upgrade is. No wonder this was not event material

Also, why the iPad Pro didn’t get landscape cameras and a Magic Keyboard with a function row? Two things that the iPad nothing gets but that the Pros are not, which is a non sense for me

thats in every segment...generation after generation are few updates...even in the car industry you have 1 big upgrade after 7-8 years, otherwise there are just facelift
So expecting something great coming from M1 is laughable

The sad part is those of us on 2018/2020 iPads Pro also have no compelling reason to upgrade. I want the better display for watching movies, but it would have required something more. Even moving the camera to landscape like they did for iPad 10 would have been enough of a QOL upgrade to convince me, and they didn't bother.

You could try using education prices. All you need is a link from somebody with a UNiDAYS account (basically open to anyone in college or uni teachers included). May be worth considering?

I agree, moving the camera to landscape would have made me update from my M1 iPad 12.9 Pro. No reason to now. Only second time since iPads came out that I have not upgraded.

I have a 12.9 inch 2018 iPad Pro -- don't see any reason to update. If the FaceTime camera had been moved to landscape orientation, I might do it, but my 2018 machine is quite fast, the screen is good (though not as good as the more recent versions) and everything works fine. No point wasting $$ on this upgrade unless it has something you really need.

Personally I would just try and find an M1, the price difference is so enormous. I can’t see them dropping support for the M1 for a while.

Think I am very happy I found the deal on the 3 week old 3rd generation iPad Pro 11 inch when I did. The m1 is more than enough and the one I found came with 5g cellular, screen protector, smart folio, and the magic keyboard.

I just bought the m1 ipad yesterday 200 dollars off. 12.9.

For me I dont think going to m2 is worth the upgrade at all.

Sometimes what apple does makes no sense and there is probably many unforeseen reasons and we can only hope. But like honestly why do we even need two cameras on the back of the ipad. Stick to one and bring another one and put it on the front for landscape. Two front cameras and one back is a way better move …

Two things about the new iPad 10:

Why the F is Apple keeping the Apple Pencil 1 and not making it compatible with Apple Pencil 2? And why does the new keyboard support function keys but the more expensive Magic Keyboard for the ‘Pro’ models still lacking that??

It was definitely a weird release day for them. Not sure who the hell is in charge over there these days but it sure seems to be getting worse. A shame as I just invested a ton of money into apple so I sure hope they get stung by this and realize they need to start listening to their customers a bit more in the future. Only way its going to work is if it hits them in the pocket book
