I am passing my 12.9in 2020 iPad Pro (3rd gen) to a family member and that’s my excuse to upgrade.
Right now my plan is to get the refurbished 12.9in 6th Gen M2 iPad Pro + Smart Keyboard Folio + use 2nd gen pencil that I already have and will keep.

- I can afford the M4 IPP but saving money is a good thing and I like getting apple refurbished products. M4 is too expensive in my opinion.
- I don’t own the keyboard yet but I realized I need one and the Magic Keyboard is way too heavy. The whole point is to keep the setup light.
- I am a huge fan of matte Bellemond protectors and I think I won’t see the screen quality difference between IPP M4 and M2 with a protector installed full time
- I mostly make notes, read books and papers, and perform office tasks on the iPad. I don’t play games or watch movies, so again a super duper retina is wasted on me I think.
- I have an M1 MBP + 4K monitor that covers all my needs for photo editing etc.

Please share your advice and critique my choices! I’ve been thinking about iPad Air M2 but the keyboard is a dealbreaker…

You know, if it was "I can get a refurb M1 for less than a new M2" I'd totally agree with you. But - the thinner profile & the OLED display of the M4, makes it a totally-other solution vs. M2. If you can hold both in your hands & compare them, I think you'd find the M4 is a BIG difference.

Doesn’t really sound like you’re going to take advantage of anything the M2 could do over your 2020 model.

I actually did a similar upgrade about a couple years ago. I gave my 2020 12.9" to my husband, and bought myself an M1 model. This upgrade worked for me because I used it heavily with my monitor. Other than that, the 2020 model is still very capable with everything I wanted to use it for.

What are you planning on using the M2 model for that you couldn't use your 2020 model for?

The 2020’s screen is starting to deteriorate and shows a yellow halo on the edges. It bothers me, but the Family Member does not care.
