M2 Mac Studio does not sleep

I just received a M2 Studio and studio display, I started setting it up with a few programs. I did not migrate my old system. I stoped for dinner and put the system to sleep. The display shutdown right away. I noticed when I came back 30 minuets later the LCD on my UPS read 33 watts and the light on the studio was solid and bright. I figured it may be spotlight indexing on something. I worked on the computer for another hour and went to bed, putting the system to sleep. This morning the LCD readout was the same 33 watts. I unplugged all the USB devices restarted and still the same result. Anyone have any troubleshooting tips? I have Photoshop, Lightroom and a few outer programs that worked fine on mu M1 iMac installed.

My standard simple-minded reply would be:
Shut it down at night, and reboot in the morning.

I believe the light on the front of the Studio will be "bright" whether it's awake or sleeping.
That's a change from previous years.

The Apple silicon Mac Mini’s and Studios do not have a pulsing status light when sleeping. The new Macs will only show a solid light.

As noted above, the power LED on the studio doesn't flash when sleeping, so it's harder to tell when it's asleep. I tell on mine by whether the usb optical mouse led is on or not.

I also found it harder to reliably get it to sleep; I found that time machine in particular kept it awake.

And what I've read, with the recent OS versions and the m1 processor, getting a mac to reliably stay asleep is a lot more complicated than it used to be.

I find that when I use the "Sleep" command from the Apple menu my Mac Studio will frequently wake itself up almost immediately. If I use the "touch ID" button with a different finger and then the "escape" key it stays asleep. Just my experience.

It’s the ****** OS as usual. Try this fix after I experienced the same thing.

See if this works - System Preferences > Keyboard under the tab Shortcuts and select App Shortcuts in the left column, then click the plus button. In the dialog box use Sleep for the "Menu Title" field and select a free shortcut. You will then find it is listed under the  menu. It does still wake sometimes after immediate sleep but hitting the key is faster. I’ve also found it will only go to sleep and stay asleep if I’m in an Apple application such finder, mail, music, notes et al.

I believed I fix my sleep problem. After trying many things. It was as simple as turning off Siri.

Don't blame you, at this point Siri is a meme. Apple keep neglecting it, disabling it my self when my studio arrives

Even with Siri off, mine wake up randomly too... I haven't figured out why yet..

The m1 Ultra was the same. It does turn off and on from sleep, but it is inconsistent. At least at idle it uses 7-8 watts. Very low.

I think mine wakes up for a minute here and there, but the screen stays off and it not sucking down power, so I'm happy.

Not a biggie, but I noticed today when I woke Studio from sleep, looked at Time Machine menu bar and the last backup was an hour before.....🤔
Does this mean it's waking every hour to back up?

I can tell when it's sleeping as my T7 drives lights go off.

Mine was waking (and staying awake to finish) TM backups, yes.

There used to be a setting for Power Nap where if turned off the Mac would not update Time Machine when sleeping. But I believe they eliminated it in Ventura

I have TechTool Pro installed which is also set to do snapshots.
This appears to do one every hour (which is the setting I chose), but this is after I have put it to sleep.

Why would I need a snapshot saved when not using my Mac.....🤪......nothing will have changed.

And why would it wake up to do a TM backup, it's messed up.

Not sleeping and waking from sleep is a feature of the newer Mac OSs. I gave up and shut down my iMac and just leave the Studio on (putting hard drives to sleep). Doesn't draw much power and its less likely to shuffle windows when I return.

My trashcan has no sleep issues. It is running El Capitan which seems to be the most recent OS without widespread sleep issues.

Yep, likewise with my cMP.
That can sleep for weeks with no movement (as it should be).

On my Studio I have disabled TTP snapshots, and set TM to manual to see how that goes.
The one thing I have noticed is my Magic Mouse (from Mac Pro) which uses a mobee rechargeable battery drains really fast, when not used. But it is about 6 years old so may be at the end of it's life.

Have swapped for standard Duracell batteries to see how it goes.
I assume a 1st gen Magic Mouse 'sleeps' when not in use...?

This really irks me. It's so "un-apple" not to pulse when sleeping.
