I got the M2 Macbook Air on launch day in August 2022. Battery health is sitting at 90% in with 181 cycles in system report. The health seems really low to me compared to the cycles. I have also always used AlDente or similar 80% battery limiters. What is everyone else's battery health? Attached Coconut Battery history.

My 15" Air is at 96.3% with 37 cycles, and I think it's been charged to 100% 2 times since I got it on whenever release day was.

That seems low to me. But it could also be that I need to charge it to 100% overnight to calibrate it.

Edit: Via coconut battery. Apple reports it as 100%.

My M2 MacBook Air also from August 2022 is currently at a cycle count of 226 with Apple's Battery panel reporting 91% maximum capacity and the actual percentage of (current capacity ÷ design capacity) is at 86.1% (equivalent to what Coconut battery is reporting for health.) So your numbers seem to match mine pretty closely though at less cycles. But my current capacity @ 86.1% design capacity has been holding at 86% +/- 0.5% for many months now. If you have AppleCare+ it really isn't something to worry about and even if you don't you'll still probably get close to 500 cycles before you notice a significant battery decline.

After over a year of ownership, I am at 96% with 37 cycles with my M2 MBA 13". I don't really use my laptop everyday, and often it is plugged into my Apple Studio display so it doesn't go down in charge. Apple and iStat both report the same 96%.

November 2022 purchase. I am at 100% health with exactly 100 cycles used. This is from the stock system information app, so obviously after 100 cycles it cannot be 100% accurately. I do not use Al Dente or coconut battery and like tools. My usage is quite mixed with several days where I am plugged in, and several on battery. I don’t let myself worry about it to be honest, and I just use my stuff for what I bought it for. Battery is replaceable if ever needed, and that is all I care about. With such stellar battery life out the gate, I know that even as the health wanes, I can still muster all day battery life for many years to come.

Same thing here. I am at 97,8 after 12 cycles. I am charging it only to 70% with Energiza. Maybe it has something to do with the calibration...

Late to the thread, but...

M2 Air, purchased new in Jan 2023. Use it 99% in clamshell mode with an external monitor, and plugged into mains power. Unplug mains once a week to discharge battery to around 40%. Computer always on, and is being used most of my waking hours, at least playing music or video.

Currently at 92% health after 64 cycles, and in Normal Condition, according to iStats.

Until recently it has always sat on 80% when plugged into mains. But did go through a 3-4 week patch recently where it was staying charged to 100% for no obvious reason, with no changes to my use pattern. That has stopped, but now it stays at 77%, instead of 80%.

Otherwise computer is working fine.

Battery does seem to be ageing a bit faster than I expected given it is on mains power almost always, and am wondering what is going on with the 100% then 77% charge behaviour.

Also, don't know the history of it, only recently started checking, but Screen On Usage also seems to be at max 24 hours a day most days, including when I am asleep. If anybody has any idea what is happening there.

I cared a lot for this battery, using AllDente since day one.
Calibrations done as well.
Not really happy with such amount of degradation.
al dente could be your problem.
just use it like Apple intended and let the thing charge fully, then use it on battery until charging is needed again.
that's what they're designed for

not a great idea to leave it plugged into mains power continuously.
Apple portables are designed to run on battery.
mains power is for charging until 100%.
kinda like an EV i guess …
it doesn't perform at its best unless you unplug and drive it ;)

Running it on battery has one serious drawback when plugged into an external monitor, you can't run it in clamshell mode. The laptop screen also has to be active, which means it has to be open at least a bit, which I really don't want to have to do.

There are some 3rd party software solutions in the App Store to prevent the external display from sleeping in clamshell mode, which I have not tried.

What? No, batteries aren't going to charge if they're full, so leaving it plugged in isn't going to cause any issues. The biggest issue is letting the battery sit at 100% for prolonged periods of time, but apps like Al Dente prevent that.

Also, uh, you're supposed to leave EVs plugged in as much as possible too, so that they can maintain a more stable battery temperature. When they're not plugged in, the acceptable temperate range is increased, to prevent the car from using battery power to maintain temperatures.

Yep, I too am wondering why?

Personally, if I were to use the laptop plugged to mains for a longer period of time, I'd use AlDente and set the battery level down to say 50-60%. Prolonged periods where the battery is at near or full charge isn't ideal for battery life...

wowsers - that's unheard of.
you've scored well …
really? my old MacBook Pro i5 2013 also had a good battery life till end. maybe its the unnecessary battery monitoring softwares that does the damage? just use it unplugged and dont charge it to 100% always. thats my simple policy
