I want to buy an M2 Macbook Air to use in our caravan full time. Most of the time we are off grid so no 240 volt power. (Australia). Is it safe to use a 12 Volt Plug (we have sockets in the van) and if so must it have specific specs? Obviously a usb c female socket on it. I see Apple sell a range of Mophie brand ones but only mention for iphone or ipad. Currently have a Microsoft Surface Pro 6 with the Microsoft 12 volt power lead that works well. It should do it was $120.

I’d use something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Anker-USB-C-...7381&sprefix=usb+c+car+charger,aps,266&sr=8-4 (doesn’t have to be Anker).

I’ve run my 16’ MBP off of a 20w USB C charger so I imagine your MBA M2 would easily be powered by something similar to the above.

Yep.

cheers mate. It does say designed fo USA voltage but I would think that 12 volt off AGM House batteries in the van is international. it's just 12 volt regardless what voltage is used in power points. USA is 110 volts but Australia is 240 volts. But I don't see that as relevant to bateries that are 12 volt wherever you buy them.

Agreed. While I’m not an electrician, I agree - if using the cigarette lighter. Worse case, the charger will blow its fuse (or should). Lol.

Do you have solar panels on your van? If so go with a "Power Delivery" style cigarette adapter and charge during the day. It'll put more draw on the house battery but will charge faster, and if you charge during the day, the power is effectivly free, as you'll just be skimming off the top of the solar coming in.
