M2 Max MacBook Pro Delay: What Can I Expect Amid M3 Release?

My workplace ordered me an M2 Max MacBook Pro five weeks ago. At the time, delivery estimates were 2-3 weeks out. The order still says "processing."

I know none of us can say for certain, but does anyone know what I should expect given the release of M3 MacBook Pros? If anyone has prior experience with a similar situation with Apple, how did it end up? Was the device you originally ordered eventually delivered?

Procurement reached out to Apple and got the response that "once the computer you ordered has been delivered, you can return it for the new model." But no word on when I might get the computer that was originally ordered.

- My CTO MBP originally said 1-2 weeks for delivery.
- Then it said 'delayed' and Apple could/would not tell me why.
- In week 3 new models were announced.
- In week 4 I received the new model including all of my CTO upgrades (CPU, RAM, GPU, SSD and display).
- I did pay the price of the original order although the newer models were slightly more expensive.

Apparently not, the order can’t be cancelled when it’s still “processing.”

Apparently not, the order can’t be cancelled when it’s still “processing.”

I haven’t gotten the order, and no word on when/if it will arrive. I checked in with procurement a few days ago and they said they would check with the vendor. Previously they said they had talked to “AppleCare” so I’m not sure through what channel they ordered.

Update: Two weeks ago I reached out to procurement again. They contacted Apple, Apple said the laptop was never shipped due to supply constraints. They allowed us to cancel the order and place a new one. I got the M3 Max 16". Still setting it up, but I'm excited to see what this beast can do!
