The claimed battery life is for web browsing at 150 nit brightness.
Heavier tasks and especially high screens brightness will result in more battery use.
It’s same as when the 16” intel model came out it was claimed to have 11 hours of battery, but I have never been able to get more than 4 hours even with light use.

is anyone other than me noticing that the battery life on the new M2 MacBook Air is much less than Apple  claims?
I monitor the power usage of my M2 MacBook Air pretty closely. Moving from 50% brightness at about 3.5 W to full brightness uses about 8 W. Less than half the battery life.

Also the M2 can boost a lot higher than the M1 could. I see over 30 W used briefly in some workloads. If you do a lot of tasks like that you are going to see dramatically lower battery life than what Apple advertises.

I can do things in this machine that just isn’t possible on other machines. Play game paradox strategy game using Rosetta for 2 hours. Then still have battery to stream shows for a couple hours. Close the lid and still have 30-40% left. All of this with no noise.

OP, how bright do you run your screen and what kind of battery life are you getting?

I have a new fully loaded MBA M2 and am watching battery use carefully. I haven't had enough sustained sessions to point at common battery usage, but I am watching sleep mode.

In another thread for the MBP 14", a poster found the Dropbox client was severely draining battery even during sleep mode. I have that client but only run it to perform sync's then shut it down.

I lost what looks like 2% of battery during sleep (lid shut) last night. This seems like a lot to me, What are people's experiences with the M2 MBA battery during sleep with the lid shut?

Also, how are people getting detailed battery usage data? The Systems Pref diagram is not very helpful with its tiny lines.

The M-series MacBooks' sleep mode is a low-power state that maintains the RAM contents so that you have an instant startup. They do not hibernate where the RAM contents are written to the SSD and then they shut down using no power. So, the two-percent loss you saw overnight is in the normal range. These new MacBooks will only hibernate when the battery is nearly depleted.

I have been using Al Dente sailing at 50-55% for a week on an M2. Haven't fully cycled the battery yet so results may be not perfect.

I lose 2% overnight with wifi and bluetooth off, all apps closed. After 24 hours it's 4%. It's almost DarkWake from Deep Idle, which I think is normal Apple silicone behavior.
