I can get the 14 inch MacBook Pro (512/16) for the same price as the 15 inch MacBook Air (512/16).

Is it true the base M2 MacBook Pro has a slower SSD?

Can anyone advise on the better choice since I can get both fit the save price?

Yes, it has a slower SSD compared to the 2021 base M1 model and should have a similar speed to the 512 GB version of the M2 MacBook Air (256 would be slower). I don't see it being a big issue unless you absolutely need a faster SSD for your work related needs.

If they're the same price, the 14" is a no-brainer as you're getting a much better laptop overall. I would only argue the air if you really want that thinner weight/design, slightly larger screen.

Depends! If you want more grunt and a better display, MacBook Pro. If you want thin and light, go MBA.

Personally I’d go MBP because I love the 120hz and HDR ability of the Pro for photos/videos

I just went through this same self debate. I have a thread in the MBA section asking the same thing. I went with MBP I like the size better. 14" is my sweet spot in a laptop. I have a 31" monitor I can connect to if I need a bigger screen and I do not need and adapter. I also wanted to SD card reader that is one less thing I need in my camera bag now. Also the MBP fit in my camera backpack the 15" Air would not

for me I just ordered the 16inch MacBook Pro m1 ..for grad school...(I have a 2017 13inch which I usually travel with)
so I didn't really need the 15inch air..(my other choice was the Mac mini m2..)

Honestly, you have to REALLY want that extra screen space to go with the Air at the same price as the Pro. The MacBook Pro will be better in every other aspect. Generally, when comparing an Air to a Pro, the big differences are screen size, weight, and price. In this case though, the weight difference between the 15" Air and 14" Pro is only 3 ounces and is countered by a larger footprint. If price is the same, then the only real difference is screen size. Other than that, the Pro is going to have more performance, better connectivity, and a better quality screen.
