I was wondering about the improvements to the M2 socs, and was thinking that perhaps the step from the A14 to the A15 might provide a hint. According to its Geekbench scores the A15 was about 15% faster in CPU scores than the A14, but it bumped GPU scores from 8947 to about 14000. Now that sounds like a much improved graphics core to me.

When the M2 comes, it might be that there are a series of these cumulative changes to discrete areas of the SoC as a whole that we need to look at to see it’s impact on the complete chip. It’s not a simple beast, there are a lot of individual components which contribute to performance.

What do you think?

Is a 50% performance increase in two years impressive? Well, on a similar process and with similar power draw, it is, at least in my book. And extrapolating from the A14 -> A15 transition that is roughly what we can hope for.
Baldurs Gate 3 will appreciate it. ?
