I am looking to buy my first MacBook Pro and have a question on the two configurations I'm considering. My budget is $2,000 and I will primarily be using it for editing 1080P and 4K videos for YouTube using DaVinci Resolve along with some RAW photo editing as well.

Here are my two options right now:
14 inch MacBook Pro, M4 with 32GB of RAM, 512 GB SSD
14 inch MacBook Pro, M4 Pro with 24GB of RAM, 512 GB SSD

I'd hope to use this MacBook Pro for 5 to 6 years and was wondering if the extra RAM with my M4 choice or the extra performance and GPU cores of the M4 Pro choice would be better for my usage case and longevity. The Thunderbolt 5 ports are a nice addition but not a deal breaker for me either way.

Thanks everyone!
Michael

In this case the better option seems to be the M4 pro model as it has a better GPU, memory bandwidth, and TB5. The only downside is a slightly worse battery life. But the battery life of the M4 Pro model is better than the M3 pro model it replaces.

M4 Pro personally if have to pick the above few.

that said I'm aiming for the M4 Max because Apple cut down all Australian base prices down by 500AUD bare minimum [which is great].
