As subject says, I just updated to PB 2 and my M4 iPad Pro is saying the display is not recognized and "Apple has updated the device information for this iPad".

Has anyone else seen this? The iPad has its original display. I'm worried now that Apple will void the warranty since it says Apple has updated the device information for this iPad.

Betas do not invalidate warranty.
However an upgrade can finish off failing hardware.
I would restore the device and try again because these messages either mean the display was replaced with a fake (obvs not), or the screen hardware has started to fail.

I'm bumping this because it's the only mention of the problem that I've found. I ignored the betas and installed iPadOS 18 RC on my 11-inch M4 iPad Pro today and got this exact same message as soon as the install finished. Same situation, my iPad was a pre-order with no modifications. I reported the bug to Apple immediately and they reclassified it as a duplicate that's been reported over 10 times.

I'm actually surprised this problem made it to a release candidate as it seems like something they need to fix before the final next week, otherwise it's probably going to end up as a news article and an 18.0.1 patch because the message appears as a dialog as soon as you unlock the device for the first time after the update. The error continues to appear under the new Repair section in Settings -> About. Based on this thread I'm assuming it's specific to the M4 iPads.

I was able to upgrade to 18 without issue before it got pulled. I just updated to 18.0.1 and got the "Display Not Recognized" error. It went away after a restart.

Edit: Chatted with AppleCare and ran a diagnostic. No hardware issues found with the diagnostic.

@Silverbird0000 I got this error on M4 iPad Pro on iOS 18.0.1

My iPad also got very hot before that error. First it showed that my iPad was too hot and battery charging has been temporarily limited to 80% till it cools down. But it never cooled down and saw this message in the morning. It was on charging overnight. Then I rebooted it as it was too hot. Then after reboot, I got the same display message.

I only had this pop up once, and I don't have the repair section showing in my about section. I'm guessing it is some kind of issue with this dual OLED display not being recognized properly since it seems only the M4 iPads are getting this message.

Thankfully mine did not get hot like this, and after a restart I never got the message again.

I followed up somewhere, but I guess not here.
The problem magically disappeared on its own after I rebooted the iPad a few days after I posted about the problem. No iOS updates in that timeframe, it was still the RC at that point. Apple must've fixed the problem server side and rebooting caused it to check again. No more repair menu, that went away when it decided the screen was genuine.

I have had that twice when resetting a 11 inch ipad pro 2024
Never repaired, obtained from a telco

Restart the device and it goes away with no messages of incorrect screen.

This has happened with Beta AND non beta iPadOS
