I just got my new M4 Mac Mini which I'm liking a lot. I got a 32gb ram version and also went for the 1TB SSD because I hate running out of space easily. In addition to that I have an external 2TB SSD and a 5TB HDD which easily covers my daily use. That's all well and good.

However, I also have a vast archive of photographs (mostly personal work but also assignments) for which I have a Lacie 2Big Thunderbolt 2 RAID which I have set up as RAID 1. When I bought it, it had two 3TB disks but once the storage started to run out I replaced them with two 8TB IronWolf Disks. Ever since then I hate it because the drives are super loud and clicky and occasionally they randomly start up at night which is a problem since I sleep in the same room. Besides, the software for the Lacie is not being updated reliably anymore so who knows how long it will work. I originally got the RAID because I wanted a backup solution but obviously that's not really what it is so now I have a Backblaze subscription.

Where do I go from here? Should I just ditch the Lacie and replace it with a simple external SSD or HDD? Should I put back the old original drives and use tit as a 6TB RAID 0? Right now I have a bit over 4TB of data on it so eventually I would reach the limit again.
If I get an external SSD and I want 8TB of storage this will be quite pricey. Would working from an HDD slow me down when editing in Photoshop as opposed to an SSD?

(sorry for the long winded rambling)
