I have a 16” M1 MacBook Pro, which I LOVE!!
However, it’s so chunky and heavy and hard to fit into my favorite bag.

My dream MacBook would be the Air with nano-textured display, but wouldn’t make sense to Apple since they want people to jump to the Pro models.

Has anyone switched from the 16” to the 14” and noticed enough of a daily weight/portability difference to make the switch worth it?

I went from the 13.3" M1 MBA to an M1 Max 16", and back down to the MBP 14.

I almost went back up to the 16" with an M4 Pro but reread my older posts on why I downsized in the first place (primarily weight and bulk). Apple plans to redesign the MBP in late-2026 so maybe by then the 16" will be more svelte. For now, I need portability and love the balance of size/performance of my M4 Pro MBP 14 with nano.

The nano-texture display is truly impressive. I didn't realize how much glare and reflection is present on MBP glossy screens but as they say, "once you notice it, you can't unsee it", and now I don't want to go back to glossy. The MBP nano-texture is way better than every other matte display or matte screen protector that I've seen.

Hoping they do nano-texture on the M4 Airs when they come out. I didn't opt for it on my M4 iMac because I don't have reflection issues where I use it. But my laptop is often in weird lighting situations.

edit: went into an Apple Store and saw two identical MacBook Pros side by side, one of which had the nano screen. I put the same photo up on both, and to my eye the contrast and brightness looked great on both -- but of course the nano screen had all the light reflections nicely diffused.

So, the nano-texture screen may be available on the M4 MBA—a "plausible upgrade." Per a 9TO5 update yesterday. They were reporting on Bloomberg's Mark Gurman's predicted launch in March.

Ain't gonna happen. Apple will keep the nano upgrade for the Pro only. That's how you make money!

I could definitely see that. But, they did start offering nano on iMacs which are a more mainstream consumer machine so I'm hoping that signals they're ready to roll it out as a general display option. After all, it's a $200 upsell ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I recently went from a 16" M1 Pro MBP to a 13" M3 MBA, and it was EXACTLY what I was looking for. The difference in heft is really noticeable, and makes it so much more portable (and usable) for me. So far I haven't really missed the screen all that much, but the downsizing was very much a high impact change for me. Good luck.

I will be moving from a much loved 16" MBP M1Max. I have more power than I generally need, and I also have a weight issue. A somewhat better nano screen would be very nice, and they can have my $200, but I'm 50/50 on it happening. We will see next week.

That would be great and another incentive to side-grade from my M1 Max MBP14.

If MBA don’t have nano texture, I certainly won’t buy a MBP instead, and might postpone again my purchase. That’s how you loose money !

I reckon the new air will get nanotexture. It’s the classic portable outdoor use laptop (even more so than the pros which are more desk to desk portable workstations) and that’s where nano will really help.

Not sure Apple will care too much about keeping it from the air, you’ll pay for it in either case.

I haven’t done 16 to 14 but I did 15 to 13 back when those were the MacBook Pro sizes and I’m never going back to 15-16.

Specifically because of portability and convenience of use without a desk.

Either way, wait for the m4 air, I think you’ll get your dream laptop.

Yes that’s what I’m hoping for.
I almost pulled the trigger on an 14” Pro with Nano-Texture, until I saw rumors of the new M4 Air.

I mean they’ve added it to the iMac and iPad, so why not the MacBook Air?? 🤔

Soooo exciting!! 😃

I'm really hoping it does. I have no need for a MBP, so if the new Air doesn't have it - that might be what pushes me over to Framework 13 running Linux (I put a deposit down on one today, but it won't ship until after the M4 Air is released).

Well it’s official, no nanotexture. I also was looking forward/hoping they’d have it on the Air.

Now I’m not sure if I should get the 14 inch pro with nanotexture or the 15 inch air.
