I'm a digital nomad. My MBA M2 is my main machine, running 9-10 hours/day. Apps are mostly light, but "heavy multitasking" (Chrome, Safari, Slack, Click Up, VPN, Outlook and Calendar are always on for my work). I am constantly hitting 7GB/8GB RAM use + 3.5GB SWAP. As a nomad, a sudden SSD failure or my Mac become too lag for my work would be catastrophic. I'm in Spain and found an Amazon deal for M4 MBA (16GB RAM / 256GB SSD) for 899 euros. This price is amazing for Europe and hits my key need: 16GB RAM (to kill the SWAP usage). I need to ensure I get an English keyboard layout though and the only way for I get a english keyboard it's buyign directly to the Apple Spain Website and the price is 1099 euros. I want to wait until 2028. Based on leaks/news (MPB OLED 2027), I expect the MBA design will finally refresh with Mini-LED/ProMotion by 2028?

Should I risk running my M2 until 2028 (and potentially burn out the SSD while traveling) OR upgrade now to the M4 16GB deal for stability and better trade-in value when the 2028 model drops? Right now my MBA it's "fine" I mean sometimes gets very lag when I have more than 7 apps opened, but it's a Mac from 2022 and shouldn't lag with light apps. I do not edit photos or videos on my Mac, I got a iPad M4 pro and I use it to do all the editing. Will my MBA M2 8GB/256Gb be enough for using the apps I mentioned until 2028?

So, let me get this straight:

You're concerned that your laptop conflicts with your ability to control 3-of-five lights in your apartment (if you--or your partner--are there (or, if you are not)), albeit wrt: the prescience of the locality (or prognosticated, and potential, GPS coordinate-synchronization) needed to triangulate:

a) your interest
b) fiddly-bits associated with said electronic device
c) feeling that your comp experience is "fine"
d) what can I expect my daily caloric-intake to be in 2028
e) endure extremely quiescent periods of extreme activity (e.g., "I type (on-average) twelve characters every minute into every default app that is installed on my MBA")
f) formulate best-practices needed to decide between:
1) use computers
2) drop out of Society, and wear dead animals on my head

While not trying to get into the way of your future development, I'm having a time deciding if you actually know where you want to be in two years of time.

What actually breaks the enjoyment of using your in-hand comps, right now?
