ma609ll vs. ma867ll

I'm considering buying a MBP advertised on craigslist. When I asked the model #, the guy said it is ma867ll--he said it had the exact same specs as ma609ll.

Does this make any sense? I believe ma609ll is the model # of the latest 15" 2.16 MBP.

Once again, no need to be an *******.
You could have told the OP that they were model codes. Not every understands Apple's product coding.

I think the key here is WHY the seller is saying its the same specs as a different model code. Why two different models if they are identical.

I also don't know this answer...

yojimbo1, there is a database on the net with all of apple's models in it.. I'm not sure where, but If I find it, I'll pass it on to you.

Just to help you look like more of an ass... the only google results for ma867ll are ebay listing. Not exactly the best place for accurate information.

Being that "ma867ll" doesn't show up on anything but eBay listings.. I wouldn't trust it. Best best is to get the serial number (a photo of it, as proof) and check with Apple.

ask him for the serial number and then plug it into Apple's website. it'll tell you what type of machine it is and how many days of AppleCare (whether it's an extended or just the limited warranty) are left.

For the record, I did google ma867ll before i posted here...the results were not very helpful.

Thanks to all who provided constructive suggestions---i will attempt to get the serial # of the MBP before I proceed further.

Everywhere that I have looked, the model "MA867LL" does not exist. I can't even find anything close to it.

Follow-up: i got the serial # and checked it out at the apple web site---it is a 15" core 2 duo MB
