Hi Guys,
Have a Mac 2011 Core 2.5ghz, 15, 8GB Ram, AMD Radeon HD6750M 512mb........have upgraded to 10.11.4 and have had issues with Mail.
Its basically screwed up, so the messages are all on Apple servers (@me.com....) and seem fine on IOS devices (Iphone and Ipads) and using Icloud portal.
I've reset the Mail (deleted and reconnected) but its still messed up.
  • Messages that arrive on other devices sometimes don't arrive on Mac
  • Messages are sometimes garbled
  • Strange HTML code in the message
  • etc
I've tested the mail account on an old Macbook pro and it seems ok.
So would you recommend re indexing the mailbox?
I was going to create a new Mac profile and test it?

The other problem is that the Mac is so slow. Any guides on here that can help.........

Thanks

Fandaz

Well thought I might of had at least one reply or even a Welcome to our Forums from at least one person out of the 300 that have viewed this post

For those reading this who might be looking for help, this is what I have done so far....
  • Tested the hard drive for errors using the Disk Utility and Drive DX - No errors found
  • Scanned for Virus's using Avast (one item found (WIN32:Malware-Gen, Unable to scan 23, and Avast Free doesn't seem to offer a list of what files wont scan and why)
  • Rebuilt Mailbox
  • Re-indexed Mail, manually
  • Reset SMC
  • Reset PRAM
  • Thinking of turning off Spotlight Search
If I still get problems with Garbled Mail, then I might create a new Account and if that doesn't help then I'll probably/reluctantly rebuild the Machine from scratch. Never did like UPGRADES.

Any Takers?

Look over your settings...

You said that on an older MBP everything is fine? Well, compare your setting between the 2 machines..

If all else fails, then re-install the OS. Start from scratch.

It would have been nice if apple had had the decency to actually warn users of these dramatic changes to a fundamental app like email before updating..

Would have saved me a LOT of hassle

fandaz, try resetting Mail's settings:

  1. If Mail is open, then close it.
  2. Open Terminal.
  3. Enter the following:

    mv "${HOME}/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail"{,~disabled}

Thanks for all your comments...

Dopeyman ...thanks but not applicable in this scenario, The MBP is on an older build for a start, settings have all been reset from scratch on the Imac.

dianeoforegon - I guess knowing this before upgrading would have been better but we are we we are. Its a mess. But I will read through your links.

George Dawes Agreed .......

richard2 Is this differnt to :-
  • Rebuilt Mailbox
  • Re-indexed Mail, manually

So here's some more info.
  • mail comes through garbled like this --_
  • 000_VI1PR0401MB190238480503B31B37C7A7B2BF7B0VI1PR0401MB1902_
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: BASE64
    Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN;
    charset=utf-8
  • emails go crazy - some landing on phone and not computer - some landing on phone then vanishing -
    some arriving several times

  • Using Icloud (portal) mail that landed on my phone isn’t on Icloud. All kinds of things are changing - like the subject of a message arrives's from Person B as “Waingrow” which was the heading of an email I sent out the night before to person A?????
  • amongst the many weird things that are happening
    emails land on my phone
    then my phone deletes them
    they vanish
    but I find them in trash
I'm thinking of trashing the system.........would a fresh install of El Capitain be advisable?

Thanks
