Hello,

I have recently gotten a mac pro 3,1. I have upgraded it to Mojave.

My issue is it seems to run a bit slow/ have laggy animations. For example when typing google searches, the text will lag for a second before taking another second to slowly fill out the search field. And when scrolling, the animation is quite jerky.

Things I have tried:
Upgraded the ram from 2 to 8gb.
Put in an 240gb SSD into slot 2.

Things I am wondering about:
Is this normal behaviour?
Is the gpu the problem? (It's running the original ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT)
Does it need thermal paste reapplied (Idle temps running at 50-60C on the cores)

Thanks

Your video card is lacking acceleration which increases the load load on the CPU = higher temperature.

It’s all because of the ancient crap GPU.
Get a Kepler Nvidia card to replace it.
Or if you are feeling more adventurous it’s possible to use an AMD RX 580 (or similar card) with a patch from netkas.
