.Mac Account - Worth It ?

I got it for the iWeb website features (you can get exclusive features when using iWeb with .Mac).
The Bookmarks, Contacts, and iCal syncing is also very handy.
I do, however, believe that for the price, we deserve much, much more storage space (at least 10 GB).

I, also thought the space they gave you was way too small.
I know you don't need a antivirus on a mac, but coming from a pc world, gives comfort and justified the price a little.
What are the key benefits you see from .Mac?

I am debating it myself as well.. I am really thinking of using it as the system is really nice but I am just not sure yet.
We shall see.
I do think it could have more features and space for upload but for what 5-6 dollars a month I guess its not to bad.
I think I will sign up for my free trial and see what i think.

How many Macs will you use regularly?
Personally, I got it because I use Macs daily at college, I help my family out sorting their mac problems and teaching them about their macs and so for cross mac usage, things like address book contacts, safari bookmarks and iCal syncing has been great. I havent once used the email feature and I have my own web server online. I just like the iDisk functionality and I use the Backup software a lot (not just on my system). I have it set to back up my desktop (where I keep current work) daily so I never lose stuff that is really important.
For the price I think it should be 5GB or even 10GB of storage space. I think for someone only using one mac computer .mac is not worth the money.

For favourites, I have been using Flock & a service like del.icio.us called Shadows that is fully integrated into Flock. So, my favourites stay updated on any of my PCs or Mac. As for syncing other data, not so sure. Calendars - Google calendar & iCal worked last time I tried.
The iDisk replacement comes from Box.Net - Gives you a gigabyte to sync files between your computers. I use it as a simple way to transfer word documents etc between desktop/laptops for ease when I'm out and about.
As for email and web space, I have my own server space for a few pounds a month - Much cheaper and much better than .Mac.
So its not all bad .Macless, with a few hours of tweaking you can emulate most of the services.

If you use the syncing function, it might be worth it, but still I think they seriously overcharge us for it.
Mine's up in October... now that I've signed up to various account with my mac.com email extension... I'll probably continue with it.

Just like any pther product or service that you shop for out there. Whether it is worth it to you depends on what features of it you will need. There are many many many features in it for many different people and in the way they use the computer. Sure there are many many replacements seperately out there for all the different functions of it. However if you do need a few of these features this gives them all to you plus some in one place. Not to even mention the way Apple has integrated it into the OS. I know I sound like a salesmen while typing this and that is probably cause I am and a salesmen for Apple ontop of that. When it comes down to it .. its something alot of people like and are happy with otherwise it wouldnt be around. Whether you "need" it is up to you. if y our not sure than sign up for the free trial (un click automatically enroll at the end of trial so you dont get charged) and see if you like it yourself.

It really is handy. The IMAP works great. I have all my email redirected to .Mac and just use my personal domain servers to send out my mail, so I keep my existing email identity. This means that I not only have my contacts, calender and keychains on all my machines in sync, but also my email, all without doing much of anything, and should both my machines crash at the same time, it's all safely stored online, along with all my key files. Well worth the $7/month I paid.
