I wanted a second cable modem in the house to run off of our Charter ISP. I know wi-fi is easier but I want a wired system.

Presently I rent a cable modem from Charter and I thought that if I bought my own they would activate. Well they did, but they also turned off the original modem that I rent from them. Does anyone know if it's possible to clone the mac address from one modem to another. The one I bought is a Linksys CM100 and the rental is an Ambit. Thx

Clone the MAC address, and use them at the same time? No.

Use one modem, but buy a 4 port wired switch. It will solve your problem.

I have essentially the same question EXCEPT I don't want to use them at the same time.

Basically, long story short is that my parents say I use the internet too much at night blah blah blah so they disconnect it at night. So I just bought a Motorola Surfboard cable modem and I want to clone the MAC address from my downstairs cable modem so that when my parents pull the plug on the downstairs modem, I can just plug in mine upstairs and connect to the internet.

Please help me!!!

I only want to use 1 modem so all I basically want to do is clone the MAC address to use my new modem instead of the old one. so another router is not what i need actually
