Hi,
I activated my free trial for .mac and it gave me a strange web address (like homepage/myname.mac) is it always the case or can you actually have address like : Gloor.mac or Glooranimation.mac etc.? I would be happy to pay that little extra if you can have a name.mac address otherwise I'll go for other companies.

Your address with dotmac should be web.mac.com/yourusername/yoursite/index.html if you publish with iweb.
The homepage address is if you use the web based page design.
If you stay with the web based design you will not be able to change that. If you use iweb or any other webdesign tool rapidweaver or other you will be able to have your domainname.com point to wherever you want it is called forwarding and masking and that is all people will see in the address bar.

Thanks,

do i understand correctly that if I do the masking and forwarding then I will still have to register my domainname somewhere else and therefore I will have to spend more money? In that case its probably cheaper to register and host somewhere else, right? Or is there something with .mac I am missing here?

You understand correctly. dotmac is a server nothing else, even if you buy your domain name elsewhere you still have to pay server fees.
Are some cheaper than dotmac? sure but keep in mind that you get a whole lot more that web publishing with dotmac. You can think of it as an extension of your mac somewhere else.
You can sync your files with other computers and more.
The other consideration is that if you use another server you will not be able to do a one click publish with iweb you will have to publish to a folder then ftp to wherever. and you will loose some dotmac iweb specific functions that do not work when publishing to a folder like comments in blogs, rss feed and search, the visitor counter ect..
