I just acquired a 3.1 2.8ghz quad core Mac Pro at what I thought was a decent price.......I know it is an older machine but it is a step up from my 2006 iMac and within my budget...$400

I was researching upgrading the video card from the stock ati 2600 pro to a pc non flashed video card. I have read about not being able to see the boot screen and was wondering if it would be possible to retain the ati card in a different slot and attach it to a separate monitor so the boot screen would be visible. I have tried to search the forums for this but probably have not phrased the question ptroperly.

In addition, you can use the 2600 with version of Mac OS that don't support the generic GPU. In my case, it's a GTX 650 Ti Boost that only runs in 10.8.4 and (maybe) 10.8.3, probably 10.9 as well.
