.Mac any good?

I can't seem to find any feedback on .Mac for web hosting. I'm new to using a Mac so I apologize for asking this question, but is .Mac good?

I'm not expert in web design, so I was gonna just start with iWeb and have some fun setting up a blog or whatever. Since i'm new to running a website, do you think .Mac and iWeb will be just fine for me? Are there any major probems using .Mac for my purposes. It just seem like people use other Web Hosting options instead of .Mac and I just wanted some feedback before I decide.

I have a .mac account, and am satisfied with it, but use it for email/storage. I think it will work great for your needs, and when/if you ever outgrow it, you'll have that much more experience. It's designed to be very simple and well integrated, so it's enjoyable to use for personal sites/blogs. For more complex sites, I would prefer root access on a virtual or dedicated server, but this sounds fine for starting out. Good luck to you!

I have a family pack to .mac, because it is cheaper that way than to have a couple of accounts. I think that it is worth every penny I spend on it. It is for much more than iweb which is great, and mail. You have enough space to back up files, you can park your photos on it . You can share files with anyone in an easy to access way. I see it as an extension of my macs.
for iweb it is the best and if you are a novice it is a lot easier to get used to iweb this way than fighting a few other variables. Here one click and you are published with all the goodies included.
It is not without its critics, it can be slower than some other servers but I can afford to waste the extra 2/10 of a second or even the minute.

.Mac tends to be a bit slow on bandwidth in comparison to other host, but for what you're wanting to do I don't think it'll be a bother.

Right, I mainly gonna use iWeb to make the site. I dont have experience with code etc to make my own so maybe this will be just fine for me.

I looked into a different web host but then I would need an FTP program to publish from iWeb to it etc. I played around with a web page yrs ago when I needed it for posting pics, but it was very basic.

I recently bought my Mac, can I still get a deal on purchasing .Mac? I think they first offered it to me for $70 the first yr, but I cant remember. Maybe i'll just call them up.

Oh one more thing, is .Mac compatible with using Google Online Apps? I just started reading about this and it looks like a great idea.

I love .Mac. It is reliable, gives me so many things in one easy to use package as well!

ON the .Mac and Google compatibility...not sure what you mean here? How would you be using them together?

Also, do you already own iWeb? I love it as well- use it for family pages with pics and text mostly. Have done some with video but not much. Seems to work seemlessly with .mac though so I am happy.

Many will say .Mac is overpriced- it is if you simply break it into pieces. You could save a few bucks trying to piece everything together yourself, but that takes time and things won't work together as seemlessly really.

Search the forums here for .Mac and you will get the whole run down of .Mac. Note- since most of those threads have been started the storage space has been increased quite a bit.

I have a dedicated server for a lot of other stuff, but still regularly use my .Mac account and love it. One thing that I've found particularly useful is the iDisk portion...when trying to get a family member to send me a huge number of photos or something it's vastly easier to give them the URL to my iDisk public folder and password so they can upload everything in iDisk's simple interface rather than trying to school them in how to setup an FTP client.

Site hosting does seem somewhat slow when compared to my other servers, but who cares, it just serves a few photos and stuff for the family.

I picked up .Mac. I got it for $70 since i recently purchased a new Mac. I'll see how it goes, maybe i'll post a link to my website one day for ya

I really like it as well, I use it for one of my blogs/podcasts and enjoy the web storage. One of the really great features is using it to sync my iMac to my MBP.
