Hi,

there is an app called MAC APP BLOCKER, the idea is to add rules for specific access for apps installed on a Mac.

macappblocker

Anyone ever tried that app and can tell me either good or bad things about it ? Thanks in advance.

I know nothing about the app, but reading through their website tells me that I would look into the built-in Parental Control preference panel, which already does quite a bit of what this app offers, before spending money on it.

I checked on that, parental control is not what I was looking for. But thanks. Kinda strange, I read a lot of posts about that app I mentioned above, but not really a discussion but more like a suggestion by one person. Would have preferred to have a discussion about that app and people that use/used it already so I know what I am getting myself into. But no experiences that I have found so far. Seems no-one has tried that thing much, or doesn't post about it. Good or bad.

Since you can already specify which apps can be used, when and by whom using Apple's built-in Parental Controls Preferences, I suspect you'll have a difficult time finding even a handful of people who actually paid for that app.

I'm sure it's a decent app, but that's a really niche market. And rpmurray stated above, not very useful if it's easily circumvented.

Just looking at the grammar on that webpage makes me think it's dodgy.
You could be right!

A whois search comes up with 'Ascio Technologies, Inc. Danmark - Filial af Ascio technologies, Inc. USA'.
That seems to be just the hosting provider located in Denmark with an office in Germany and not the company holder of osxbytes. If osxbytes would be an European company, it should have detailed contact information on its website. Sorry, I can't prove how trustable this company or this App is and as I wrote, I haven't tried it.

I came to the iLock site, because Thomas Tempelmann has mentioned on his site http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/ a search tool of osxbytes called iFileX. I've been trying iFileX and found that I prefer 'Find Any File'. iFileX doesn't provide a fully retina display compatible UI and offers less functions in comparison to Tempelmann's search tool, but I wouldn't say that iFileX is swindle like some other Apps I've seen around the web or even at the App Store. That's why I thought it's o.k. to mention iLock in this thread.

Thanks.
I'm currently reading a book on the history of Amsterdam. It's mostly political, which in the early history also means heavy involvement with Catholics and Calvinists. Quite interesting, although I was originally more interested in the building of the canals.
