Not really a big issue but just curious more than anything else, the Apple TV app in my dock constantly has a red "1" notification badge on it. I've opened the app, clicked every single button in the app, removed it from my dock and put it back, signed in and out of the app, downloaded unwatched episodes, restarted the computer, everything but it just doesn't seem to go away.

Anyone got any idea at all what the notification could possibly be? Thanks in advance!

(note, before someone asks what the big deal is, there isn't one really, I'm just a bit OCD with notification badges tbh ?)

Same with me, but I can't sign into the TV, Music or Podcasts app :-( no matter what I do the red number is still there.

OK managed to get Music, TV and Podcast apps to work correctly, but yes the badge icon remains, have you figured out a way to remove it?

Thanks

I had the same problem that I couldn’t sign into all those apps and had a red badge on the tv app. The only way I was able to fix it was to make a new admin user account in system preferences then delete the old admin account.

There must be a command line to remove it, or at least clear it. Hopefully Apple can get the bottom of these errors.

Have you tried disabling the Badge app icon from Notification Center?

This happened to me. I contacted apple support and they said this problem has affected many users. A lame workaround that worked for me: -> System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Create an admin user. Login into your newly created admin account and sign-in to iCloud from there and this should log you into the TV, Music, and Podcast apps.

Did you do anything in particular to get it to show up?
Nothing, it should be there. You could try to make copies of ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ncprefs.plist and ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.TV.plist, delete the originals and log out or restart. The two preference files for the Notification Center and Apple TV should be recreated, hopefully correctly.

Wow fantastic, that fixed it and removed the badge icon! Thank you!

I can't get rid of this annoying notification no matter what I try, including the suggestions above.
You can try to edit com.apple.ncprefs.plist, search for com.apple.TV and change the last number from flags to zero. Log out and the bubble should be gone forever.

you could check to see if you have a red 1 notification, in Preferences>Users and Accounts, if you do, it might mean there's an upgrade waiting for you. That's what it meant for me.

I can't even see com.apple.ncprefs.plist or com.apple.TV under Library/preferences. Any suggestions on what to try next? Thanks.

Not /Library/Preferences, your user preferences in /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences

Yesterday I deleted com.apple.ncprefs.plist and com.apple.TV.plist and the badge didn't reappear after rebooting. However today it reappeared after a reboot. Any fix?

I tried the suggestions above yesterday, I just did another clean install in the end as when I signed out of TV/Podcasts/iTunes it wouldn't let me log back in.

Apple's suggestion was to just create a new user profile. So I just nuked the machine and started again.

Anyone? Actually in the quoted post it was not a reboot but actually shutting down the Mac. Whenever I shut down and restart the badge will reappear...

Creating a new user profile shouldn't even be an option. Can't they come up with a better fix, like a Terminal command or something?
